The Effects of Joining a Strategic Alliance Group on Airline Efficiency, Productivity and Profitability
Read article at Massey Research Online:
Airline strategic alliance groups have become an important sector of the airline industry, which have recently tended to dominate the industry. Airlines want to join a strategic alliance group in order expand their business and reduce their costs 鈥 and expect to. However, the true benefits of the effects of a strategic alliance group remain unclear. There has been little research conducted on how airline alliance strategic groups affect changes in airline performance. Mr Lin adopted three different empirical quantitative analyses to reveal what effects a strategic alliance group had on airline performance. His results suggest that by joining an alliance group, airlines will obtain certain benefits from the various aspects of the alliance group efforts. However, due to the limited influence of an alliance group, airlines should not consider joining an alliance group as a universal problem-solving strategy.
