Dr Yong鈥檚 thesis opened a window into the private world of collaborative writing by tracking the process involved in collaborative writing, and hearing learners鈥 reflections on, and reactions to, their experience. Her research investigation revealed that collaborative writing is a highly complex and dynamic phenomenon. The effectiveness of the collaboration is not only influenced by the complexities of the individuals in the group, but is also affected by multiple key factors. These factors include group composition, role flexibility, conflicts, task complexity, cultural issues, and use of local languages. Dr Yong鈥檚 findings revealed how group collaboration in writing changes and becomes more positive over time.
