Read article at Massey Research Online:
Motivational intervention courses or 鈥榖oot camps鈥 for long-term unemployed aim to improve employment options and/or outcomes for participants. Mr Maxwell evaluated two outdoor motivational intervention programmes, Outward Bound鈥檚 Catalyst course and the Army鈥檚 Limited Service Volunteers (LSV), to determine their outcomes and identify the processes involved in producing them. This study is the first to focus on the specific population group attending motivational intervention courses, and found that the 鈥榖oot camps鈥 increased participants鈥 self esteem, self confidence, self awareness and sense of belonging.
