Read article at Massey Research Online:

Microfinance institutions (MFIs) are also called banks of the world''spoor as they pursue both financial and social objectives. Mrs Bibi evaluated the performance of these institutions using financial ratios, data envelopment analysis (DEA) and stochastic frontier analysis (SFA). Firstly, two new ways of outreach were introduced for social performance analysis and results suggested that those new indicators explain the social performance better than the existing indicators. Secondly, the possible link between social and financial objectives was evaluated in different regulatory and ownership structures of MFIs. Thirdly, she assessed efficiency analysis using DEA where along with conventional models, double bootstrap technique was used. Lastly, her research used the SFA technique to look at the impact of women in various roles. Corporate governance of MFIs was also investigated with results suggesting that governance and gender are important efficiency determinants of MFIs.
