Thesis Title
Epidemiological studies of enteropathogens of newborn calves in New Zealand dairy farms

Read article at Massey Research Online:

The dairy industry makes a significant contribution to the New Zealand economy. Morbidity and mortality in cattle significantly reduce the income of cattle operations. Diarrhoeal disease, in particular neonatal calf diarrhoea (NCD), is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in cattle. Mr Al Mawly investigated epidemiological aspects of NCD in one of the most comprehensive studies in聽its field.聽In particular, he assessed the causative role of five different calf microbial enteropathogens as well as husbandry and infrastructural risk factors in 97 New Zealand dairy farms. The results provide new data that could be used by farmers and veterinarians to mitigate this condition in New Zealand and abroad.
