The research in Pictures of the Body asks how painting can produce empathy and reflexivity in an audience. Paul Melser exhibited an installation of reduced and abstracted paintings based on contemporary media images of conflict between demonstrators and police. Central to his argument is the incorporation of the ideas of Relational Aesthetics and Horizon Linking in the paintings.
