Research Expertise

Research Interests

My research expertise centers around management history, politics; both local and geopolitical, tourism and popular culture.  I tend to be a qualitative researcher and lean heavily upon the academic disciplines of strategy and marketing, in particular the theories that examine reasons for innovation and behaviors that give/have given rise to innovation.  I am currently interested in PhD or Masters candidates that may wish to develop their own ideas within the fields above.

Project Title: SMEs and sustainability

The aim of this study was to understand what sustainability means in the context of small firms as seen from the perspective of the 50 small firm owners/managers that we have visited and interviewed. This research explored how small firm owners/managers understand sustainability in the context of their firm and how they put their understanding into practice. A typology of small businesses was developed that takes into account how environmental sustainability was understood by the owner-manager, the drivers for introducing sustainable business practices and how they were implemented.
