Brandon McMurtrie BS, BSc Hons, AFHEA
Assistant Lecturer
School of PsychologyI am a Graduate Assistant and PhD student in the School of Psychology, based on the Manawatu campus. My research is in social/political psychology, with a focus on affective polarization, negative partisanship, political bias, and authoritarianism. I am particularly interested in the individual differences and contextual factors that drive polarization. Guided by current research, I investigate polarization and related negative socio-politcial phenomena on all sides of the political spectrum. Tribalism, groupthink, and political biases are a fundamentally human, rather than partisan, affliction. I aim to conduct my research in a more politically balanced manner than has historically been conducted in the social sciences, in accordance with the Heterodox philosophy.
