Project Title: Rangatiratanga and online media: understanding how M膩ori, create, shape, experience and share our worlds

Media pervades every aspect of life, influencing, norms, practices and the lives, communities and nation we aspire to and foster. Indigenous peoples understand its power and in response, traditional and new media platforms are harnessed with purpose. Strategic ways M膩ori consumers and creators of content engage with online media can be viewed as acts of sovereignty or rangatiratanga, through distinctly M膩ori media consumption and production practices that shape physical and increasingly virtual spaces of safety and resistance. Through interviews and textual readings, this research seeks to understand how M膩ori, create, shape, experience and share our worlds through online media.
