Graduate Supervision Statement
My supervision
I'm a motivated and pragmatic supervisor of public health and psychology projects. I help students identify a project that is just the right scope for their abilities, the right size for their aims, and do-able in the time that they have. I'm keen to talk to any student who may feel slightly out of their depth, a little anxious about what a project should look like and basically unsure of what they are doing. That is exactly how you should feel as a project student; you wouldn't be learning anything if you weren't outside your comfort zone.
My areas of interest
I have broad public health and psychology interests. This means I can work with students across a range of projects that they might come to me with, or, I have a range of potential projects students can complete. I'm interested primarily in the following areas of research:
- Alcohol and other drug misuse
- Health trends & determinants across the lifespan
- Health communication & public health literacy
- Public health screening
- Emotions
