Jenny Green MPhil

I am a senior lecturer within the School of Nursing and teach in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My philosophy of student-centred learning is underpinned by andragogical [adult, self-directed learning] (Knowles et al., 2011) and heutagogical [autonomous, self-determined learning] (Blaschke, 2012) principles which enable me to build on learners’ prior knowledge, identify areas of new knowledge and fluency within digital learning spaces to support them in taking responsibility for what, when and how they learn. My expertise centres on leading, planning, developing, facilitating and managing excellent experiential learning for students, in combination with mentoring colleagues to enhance their teaching in technology-rich environments. My research topic has been chosen because of my keen interest in andragogical and heutagogical learning and in gaining a greater understanding of what contributes to productive, hybrid learning environments.  Given the global transformations in 2020 that have been requiring emergency responses to support learning in higher education contexts, the timeliness of deepening our understanding of what constitutes productive learning has never been more imperative.
